In a world shaped by conflict, climate change, and inequality, immigration and displacement have become defining issues of our time. For millions forced to flee their homelands, resettlement is not just a matter of geography, it’s about rebuilding identity, security, and purpose. At the heart of this struggle are immigrant women, often navigating the complexities of trauma, language barriers, financial hardship, and systemic marginalization. Neococo Collective exists to meet this moment with empathy, creativity, and community.

Neococo Collective is a Los Angeles based non-profit that empowers immigrant and refugee women through dignified employment, creative expression, and economic opportunity. Our mission is rooted in the belief that art can be a tool for healing, empowerment, and advocacy. We partner with women who have experienced displacement, many of whom are single mothers, survivors of violence, and caretakers, providing them with sustainable work, skill development, and a nurturing space to thrive.

What makes our program different is our commitment to centering the stories and cultural history of the women behind every product. Through our art led design programs, women artisans co-create collections that reflect their cultural heritage and personal journeys. Each piece, whether it’s a hand-stitched top, jacket, or home accessory; carries a message of resilience and creative pride. We don’t just sell products; we share stories of survival, joy, and transformation.

Our impact on the immigrant working class is tangible. For many of our artisans, Neococo is their first opportunity to earn a living wage in the U.S. while working in a trauma-informed, community-based environment. Unlike exploitative low-wage industries that many immigrant women are pushed into, we provide flexible hours, holistic support, and leadership training. The result? Women are not only surviving; they are stepping into their power as creators, providers, and leaders.

Our work also challenges harmful narratives around immigration. Too often, immigrant communities are seen through a deficit lens defined by what they lack rather than what they bring. Our model flips that script. We see immigrant women not as victims, but as artists, entrepreneurs, and agents of cultural preservation. By investing in their growth, we are building a more inclusive, multiracial economy, one where dignity and creativity are central to how we define “work.”

As global displacement continues to rise, supporting immigrant led and immigrant serving organizations is more urgent than ever. Our vision is not only to scale our programs, but to spark a larger movement around economic justice, immigrant rights, and feminist futures. Every purchase, donation, or collaboration helps us grow a circular ecosystem where impact and aesthetics go hand in hand.

At Neococo Collective, immigration is not a crisis, it’s a call to build new structures of belonging. Through craft, care, and collective resilience, we’re showing what’s possible when displaced women are given the resources and respect to lead.
